The incidence of cancer and other genetic and metabolic disorders is high in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. According to the Cancer Registry Report published in the Year 2007, breast cancer (mostly in women), leukemia, non-hodgkin’s lymphoma, thyroid cancer, brain tumor, colorectal and bladder cancer (mostly in men) constitute some top cancers in adults in the Kingdom.Read More... |
Goals: |
Genomic and multi-disciplinary research with the use of high throughput techniques, use of cellular and animal models, proteomics and miRNA analysis.
Understand the biological mechanisms involved in disease progression and how these mechanisms can be exploited to develop and test new therapies.
Characterize and stratify the tumors studied by identification of biomarkers that can aid diagnosis or prognosis.
Epigenetic and expression profiling of the tumor samples obtained from Saudi patients in order to elucidate the signaling pathways involved in their tumorigenesis.
Examine the possible utilization of the knowledge base built during the research conducted above in design of novel therapeutic regimens.
Setup a long commitment collaborative research team between major hospitals involved in the project for continuing future national projects.
