The study aimed to identify the relationship of depression disorder with drug addiction in the light of some variables among a sample of addicts at Irada and Mental Health CENTER in Dammam.To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive approach was used using the comparative correlative study method, where the study population consisted of all drug addicts in Irada and Mental Health CENTER in Dammam, who numbered (500) addicted to drugs. The researcher divided the sample into an exploratory sample to ascertain the psychometric characteristics of the study tools, which numbered (20) drug addicts, and into a main sample of (100) drug addicts, and (100) non-drug addicts. Then, Therefore, the researcher applied the study tool (Beck Depression Inventory) in its second form to the study sample, and the results concluded that there is a depression relationship between depression and drug addiction, where the correlation value was high (0.660) and statistically significant (0.011), This indicates that there is a direct relationship between depression and addiction, and the arithmetic averages of the level of depressive disorder among a sample of drug addicts ranged between (.30 - 1.16), where the The overall arithmetic mean of ".73" with a low degree and a standard deviation of "0.48", as it was found that there is a depression relationship between addicts and non-addicts, where the correlation value was high (0.861) and statistically significant (0.003), T-value= 3.637, and this indicates that the addicted group is more depressed than the non-addicted group . The results also showed that there were no differences between depression and the variable of (age, marital status, educational qualification), while it was found that there was a direct statistically significant relationship between depression and the two variables (number of years of addiction) (number of times of hypnosis), and there were statistically significant differences in the dimension Depression according to the variable of drug type in favor of the "alcohol" category.
The study recommended the necessity of paying attention to the educational and awareness role about the dangers of drugs and their impact on individuals in the community, and the necessity of keenness of the administration of Irada and Mental Health Complex in Dammam in treating depression among drug addicts through the rehabilitation of psychologists and their employment in the complex.
