In order to find out the causes of urinary retention in females in our own population and the results of its management, we conducted a retrospective study on 30 female patients with retention of urine, seen at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, over a five year period. Only six (20%) patients were found to have psychological disturbances. Out of the 30 patients, 27 were available for follow-up.
