Abstract : Fifty samples of imported frozen mackerel and sardine were randomly collected from local markets in Egypt. The muscles of these samples were extracted by trichloroacetic acid and dervatization by dansyl chloride. HPLC was used for the separation and determination of eight biogenic amines: Histamine (His), tyramine (Tyr), tryptamine (Trypt), Cadaverine (cad), Putrescine (put), Spermine (spm), spermidine (spd) and B- phenylethylamine (B-ph) in the investigated samples. The detection of such amines was performed using a fluorescence detector (338 nm excitation and 455 nm emission wavelengths). Comparatively higher average values of trypt, cad, B. ph, Put were detected in sardine samples being 26.7, 5.7 and 19.2, respectively compared with those of mackerel. Histamine was detected in 45% of sardine and 21.7% of mackerel samples
