Abstract : Treatment of heterocyclic -ketonitriles with hydrazine hydrate and phenylhydrazine afforded hydrazine derivs. in 62-86% yields which cyclized in PPA into pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrazoles in 52-72% yields. Reaction of the heterocyclic -ketonitriles with cyanoacetohydrazide furnished the cyanoacetyl pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrazoles. One of the hydrazines reacted with -diketone and -ketoesters to afford pyrazolyl-pyrrolines. The hydrazine also reacted with D-aldoses and acetophenone to give the corresponding hydrazones and hydrazine carboxamide derivs., resp.
