Abstract : The study aims to determine in obese postmenopausal women, the influence of Nigella sativa administration with and without hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on pro-inflammatory cytokines and total antioxidant capacity. Their inter-relationship with indices of platelet activation, lipid peroxidation and lipoprotein status would be evaluated. The study included sixty selected obese postmenopausal women (mean age 62.7 +/- 5.3) were equally classified into four groups. The results showed increased total antioxidant capacity, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol and its subunits in response to therapeutic management> In conclusion, supplementation of both Nigella sativa and HRT proved a more effective regimen for minimizing atherogenic and thrombogenic potentials in obese postmenopausal women having insulin resistance and elaborating a sedentary life style
