Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is considered as a very early form of prenatal diagnosis. PGD is an adjunct to assisted reproductive technology and requires in vitro fertilization to obtain oocytes or embryos for evaluation. The PGD technology has the potential to increase chance of a healthy pregnancy. The PGD unit aims at establishing genetic disorders prevention program in Saudi Arabia through advanced research in order to relieve human suffering from genetic disorders, birth defects and developmental disabilities.

This unit is designed to perform genetic analysis using PCR methods for diseases caused by single gene mutations, and FISH analysis for diagnosing chromosomal aberrations.
