Dr. Syed Kashif Zaidi, as Assistant Professor and involved in tissue culture unit in Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research (CEGMR), King Abdulaziz University since Nov, 2012 is using cutting edge molecular biology techniques to understand the signaling pathways involved in aging process. His fascinating work is geared towards creating new animal models to better understand the process involved in aging. Dr. Zaidi received his Ph.D. in 2005 from the Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, INDIA. During his research work, he was involved in observing the preventive and prophylactic effects of antioxidant compounds in restraint stress induced animal models.
His work on aging began while he was a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Endocrinology, Stanford University (California), where he worked on cholesterol transporter protein (StAR) and had established the significance of this receptor protein in mediating the cholesterol transport to mitochondria and regulation of steroidogenesis during aging.
Dr. Zaidi’s breakthrough was supported by a prestigious funding agency King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), through funding two big grants worth 4 million Saudi Riyals as Principal Investigator
