Professor. Abdelbaset Buhmeida, MD, Ph.D., (ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0248-8025) Prof. Buhmeida is a senior scientist, PI and scientific coordinator at the Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research (CEGMR), King Abdulaziz University. He is a renowned Libyan/Finnish scientist known with his strategic vision in biomedical research, health, and wellbeing. He is also a prominent expert in complex diseases mainly cancer prognostication/stratification, modern biobanking, biomarkers discovery, precision medicine, lifestyle, systems medicine, and wellness science. He played a key role in the promotion of CEGMR as a leading biomedical and translational research hub in the Kingdom and the region, through the development of innovative research, technology settlement units, and education programs/networks that foster technology transfer, mutual trust, behavioral change, bioethics, and responsible data sharing towards the enhancement of the national and international research ecosystems.

Besides his excellent record of peer-reviewed publications, Professor Buhmeida has significant contributions in the supervision of graduate students and the delivery of keynote presentations in important national and international meetings/conferences. He is also an active member of the editorial board of renowned international peer-reviewed journals and research funding bodies.

Currently, Professor Buhmeida is one of the Principal Investigators of the Saudi Cancer Tissue Array-based Network Initiative (SaCTAN) funded by the Deputyship of Research & Innovation (DRI), Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia. The main objectives of SaCTAN - as a national networking model and research platform- are to be the main supplier of high quality and fully annotated solid tumors Tissue Microarrays (TMA) slides; and to deliver advanced training and expert advice for healthcare scientists to effectively and timely convert their hypothesis in to a discovery in a cross-disciplinary atmosphere.

One of his main current research interests are the systems-based use of Islamic values and culture as valuable resources that strengthen the advanced biotechnologies and big data tools to effectively promote health, prevent diseases and maintain wellness.

Through preventive/lifestyle medicine, Islamic values & culture, digital health and systems-based approaches, the ultimate goal of Professor Buhmeida efforts is to footpath the way towards the establishment of personalized wellness, and fill in the gaps of the current healthcare systems towards the implementation of precision medicine.
