CEGMR Bioethics Meeting with KACST National Bioethics Delegation

The CEGMR received delegation from KACST national committee for bioethics. The delegation was composed of four members and the objective was to follow up and streamline the performance of CEGMR bioethics sub-committee after registration renewal with KACST (registration number: HA-02-J-001). The previous project proposals approved by the CEGMR bioethics committee since its initial launch in 1432H were presented to the KACST delegation by the new chairman Prof. Adeel Chaudhary. Other new members of the CEGMR bioethics committee including Prof. Mohammed Al Qahtani (vice-chairman), Prof. Adel Abuzenadah, Prof. Mamdooh Gari, Dr. Esam Jiffri, Dr. Ammar Chaudhary, Dr. Osama Bajouh attended the meeting.
The KACST delegation were satisfied with the selected members and the way proposals were handled in the past. However, they requested improvements in bio-banking with regards to donors' rights. They also agreed that manuscripts at the time of submission can't be allotted ethical approval based upon submitted abstracts only. They particularly liked the vision of the renewed committee and how it plans to provide its on-line services. They also agreed to support the idea presented by Prof. Adel that the chairman of CEGMR bioethics committee should be made a member of King Abdulaziz University Hospital bioethics committee to avoid duplication of efforts and give more weight and acceptance to committee's decisions regarding fundamental bio-medical research. The KACST members left after hour an and a half meeting promising their committed towards improving the standards of research ethics by staying in touch with us on routine basis. |
