My area of expertise falls in the field of transcription factor regulation in hematopoietic stem cell differentiation and mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics. Currently my focus is on the establishment of advanced MS-based quantitative proteomics at CEGMR, King Abdulaziz University. My main research interests are directed towards understanding molecular signalling pathways in cancer in general, and hematopoiesis and leukemia in particular, through the use of MS-based proteomic technologies.

Special focus is given towards understanding the protein pathways involved in CD44 signalling. Molecular profiling of diseases common in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with particular emphasis on quantitative proteomics with an aim for biomarker discovery will be taken-up after the establishment is over.

Studies related to proteomics applications in protein-protein interactions, post-translational modifications, and imaging are other areas of my research interest relating to proteomics. My secondary research interests are in delineating chromosomal abnormalities using array CGH technology.

As part of the CEGMR support service, ‘Advanced Proteomics Unit (ATP service unit)’, we will provide protein fractionation and identification using mass spectrometry as well as designing typical and complex proteomics experiments on an interactive basis with researchers. The ATP unit will carry-out identification and characterization of proteins from biological samples and provide researchers with the instrumentation, technical expertise and experience in educating and training the staff. In addition, the ATP unit will continue to improve upon proteomic techniques used for identification of protein-protein interactions and post-translational modifications.
